Abacus by Laura Murphy

Choreography: Laura Murphy
Nine women, 18 buckets – through lifting and swinging, twirling and clashing, they create the rhythms of our daily lives. Abacus celebrates feminine engagement with agriculture and industry as part of our contemporary culture. Although the themes of the piece – work and routine, boredom and beauty – are universal, its roots are in dairy farming in Ireland. Abacus looks at how the pressure to conform affects our relationship with others who are experiencing the same challenges as us.
