Friars Walk
For walkers and talkers, for generation emigration, for medievalists and anyone who can make a paper boat…
“Travelling is a brutality, it forces you to trust strangers and lose sight of all that familiar comfort of home and friends.” – Cesare Pavore
Join Simon Simeonis as we open his 14th Century version of the Lonely planet guide and discover a world not too far from our own…
This summer follow in the footsteps of Simon Semeonis and Hugh Illuminator on their medieval pilgrimage from Clonmel to Canterbury, Cairo and up to the Jerusalem of their dreams.
Two Irish friars left Ireland in 1323. They entered the world of Gothic cathedrals, pearl-studded shrines, mosaics and frescoes. Every step took them further away from the familiarity of home, encountering other languages and customs. This immersive performance, set within the hidden sanctuary of Ennismore Meditation Centre, invites the audience to move through a sensory world of colour, music, taste, song and smell, where each space has a story to tell.
The Intersections: Culture and Creativity Project in association with artists, Kevin Crawford, Mark D’Aughton, Deirdre Dwyer, Nicholas Kavanagh, Orla Kelly-Smith, Claire O' Connell, Chrissie Poulter and Mark Wilkins is funded by CACSSS UCC.
