Theatre Artist in Residence at Garter Lane : Deirdre Dwyer
Garter Lane Arts Centre, the Arts Council and Waterford City & County Council are delighted to introduce Deirdre Dwyer as the incoming Theatre Artist in Residence 2020.

Deirdre, a Waterford native who has recently returned to live and work in the city, is excited about the upcoming opportunities this award will facilitate.
One of the main focuses of the residency will be the creation of an incubator programme, a paid engagement for participants, which will culminate in a presentation at Garter Lane’s Spróg Festival. Deirdre, and invited experts in the field, will work with a group of theatre makers based in the South East, with the aim of developing a community of makers interested in the provision of quality children’s theatre. Over the incubation period the ensemble will explore making methods with the aim of developing a cohesive theatrical language and will present an embodied works in progress for the Spróg audience in July 2020, and engaging with the young audience in a feedback process. Applications for participants will open in Spring.
This award will also provide Deirdre with the time, space and support to create her third show for children, a new version of The Snow Queen, for a Waterford audience for presentation at Garter Lane Theatre in late 2020.
Alongside this the residency will facilitate Deirdre in offering informal mentoring support to theatre practitioners, and future practitioners, by connecting her with the Young Arts Critics programme run by Garter Lane and will supporting an engagement with the residents of A Little Room – Theatre Development (Centre housed at Garter Lane Studios) as a consultant designer should it be requested.
Finally the residency makes provision for Deirdre’s professional development by funding her to travel to see work and to engage in further training as appropriate.
